Celebrated desert interior designer Christopher Kennedy prepares to open a new 3,000-sq.-ft. retail store and design studio in Palm Springs, the company announced. The Christopher Kennedy home store, located on South Palm Canyon Drive, will feature products from the designer’s own couture line of furniture, which is carried at to-the-trade design showrooms around the country, alongside hand-picked vintage finds and other contemporary furnishings. The home store will also carry Christopher’s lighting for Lamps Plus, his popular Palm Springs Neighborhood candle line, his soon-to-be-released accessory line for a major television shopping channel, and his brand new collection of pet fashions.
Christopher will design the store’s interior, which will feature his signature livable modern style. Concrete floors and grasscloth walls will create a clean and bright backdrop for his sculptural furniture pieces. "It's simply fabulous and an honor to be able to add the Christopher Kennedy name to the up-and-coming South Palm Canyon district,” Kennedy remarked. ”With the newly-opened Hacienda Cantina & Beach Club and the recently announced Cameron development in the works, I am confident that this area of town is about to experience a similar resurgence to the Palm Springs Uptown Design District. I am very proud to be investing in this part of our city.”
The new showroom and studio is indicative of Christopher’s ongoing commitment to Palm Springs. This past February, he spearheaded Palm Springs’ first decorator Show House in over a decade. Partnering with Modernism Week and Luxe Interiors + Design magazine, The Christopher Kennedy Compound attracted over 4,000 people in 10 days, with gross ticket sales of almost $100,000 – the proceeds of which went to Modernism Week.
“In the past ten years, Palm Springs has been a wonderful place to build my business,” Kennedy comments. “The relaxed luxury and modern glamour for which our city is famous continues to inspire me and my brand. It is natural for me to give back to the city that has given me so much, personally and professionally.”
Mr. Kennedy holds architecture and MBA degrees from Drury University, where he sits on the school’s Professional Advisory Council. He is the President of the American Society of Interior Designers Palm Springs / Inland Empire chapter. As the 2013 winner of ASID’s Best in Show award, Christopher’s work has captured the attention of numerous national publications including The Los Angeles Times, Dwell, Luxe, Architectural Digest, and California Homes.
Christopher, supported by his staff of six, is currently working on a remodel of the iconic Toucans Tiki Lounge. His residential design roster includes homes at The Vintage Club in Indian Wells, The Movie Colony in Palm Springs, Thunderbird Heights in Rancho Mirage, as well as residential projects in Newport Beach, Las Vegas, and Seattle.
Christopher Kennedy Inc. is planning an open house at its new location in the fall of 2014.
